Essential oils are the concentrated aromatic essence of plants, distilled from roots, flowers, bark, leaves, and resins through processes refined over centuries. In the Chinese medicine tradition, aromatic plants have always been understood as medicines that work through both the Lung, which governs the breath and the body’s surface, and the shen, the Heart-mind, which responds immediately and deeply to scent, as well as the physical and chemical reaction that occurs when the oil is placed onto the skin and corresponding acupoints.
The Essential Oils offered at Numinous Acupuncture and Alchemy include both single therapeutic-grade oils sourced from the Chinese medicine tradition and my own handcrafted blends developed from years of clinical practice. My blends are created specifically to complement acupuncture treatment, supporting the work of each session between appointments, addressing patterns that respond well to aromatic and physiological medicine, and bringing the intelligence of plant chemistry into daily self-care.
Each blend is named for its clinical function ie: calms the spirit, supports the Liver, warms the Kidney, clears the Lungs, and comes with guidance on how to use it most effectively for your specific pattern and condition.
Essential oils can be incorporated directly into acupuncture sessions that are applied to specific acupressure points. They can also be used at home as part of a daily self-care practice. I will guide you on the most appropriate application for your condition and pattern.
My handcrafted blends have been developed over years of working with patients and observing what works. Current blends in development include formulations for nervous system support, Liver qi, Kidney warmth, respiratory clearing, and skin vitality.
